protected from physical damage and well .

TROMBONE TRIVIA

Trombones
have been around for more than 600 years. The original design of the
trombone came from an Old English instrument called the sackbut.

The
word sackbut probably came from the French words saquer, meaning  to
pull, and bouter, meaning to push.  The Italian word for sackbut is the
word trompone so that’s were we probably got the word. The mouthpiece of a
trombone is pretty large and is cup-shaped. You play the trombone by
sliding tubing back and forth to make the tube longer or shorter. This
changes the sound. In the beginning there were four different kinds of
trombones used.

There is soprano, an alto, a tenor and a bass.

Soprano-highest pitched among trombones
Alto- next highest-pitched and commonly in the key of Eb.
tenor-A tenor trombone is always tuned in Bb,it is the most commonly seen among the trombones
Bass- bass trombone has the lowest pitch.

The trombone is the only modern orchestral brass instrument that could play all the notes.

Trombones are specifically manufactured and classified according to the player’s level of expertise:

1) Standard trombones- are entry level trombones intended for beginners and students.

2) Intermediate trombone– are trombones purposely designed for players with skills above the beginner level but not at par with    professional trombones players yet.

3) Professional Trombones-are specifically created for the professional trombone players.

Parts Of the Trombone

JUPITER 536L STANDARD  TENOR TROMBONE SPECIFICATIONS

TENOR TROMBONE

The tenor trombone has a fundamental note of Bb,most frequently encountered trombones.
It
has clarity, brilliance and flexibilty that you need for playing lead
trombone. The others are soprano, alto and bass are for another purpose.

Bore

.525″  bore

Bore size refers to the diameter of the tubing used to make your trombone.
Typical
bore sizes found in most standard trombone range from the smaller .450
mm to the extra large .600 mm. The differences in sounds produced are
pretty straight forward with the smaller the bore size creating a softer
sound and larger bores producing louder, bolder sounds.

So
what does that mean for you and your playing needs? Well, if you are a
second or third chair, playing soft jazz or the cornet is not a lead
instrument in your ensemble, a smaller bore size will produce a softer
tone that is best for playing music designed for these roles.

A
smaller bore size means a softer sound, a larger bore sizes will produce
more powerful and fuller tones that are perfect for lead chairs in
ensembles, solo performances and a number of more classically inspired
music styles where the trombone is typically a lead instrument.

Bell Diameter

8.1″

The
part of the horn where the sound comes out of. Mostly made of brass and
can either be lacquered in gold, which produces a more mellow sound,
and silver-plated, which produces a brighter sound.

It affects the projection of the trombone’s sound.
A large bell will cause the sound to spread out more,
while a small bell will cause the sound to spread out less.

 With
a large bell the sound is spread out so that a large number of people
spread out in the audience will hear you at about the same loudness.
With
a small bell the sound is spread out less, so that audience members
sitting directly in your line of fire will think you are loud, while
audience members sitting off to either side will think you are less
loud.

Small measurements range from 6.75″ and the larger ones or modern sized are 9.5″ to 13″.

Bell Material

Yellow Brass

Yellow
Brass creates clear strong accurate sound projection. Yellow Brass =
70% copper, 30% zinc Yellow brass instruments have a robust sound that
holds up well to loud, full tone.

dirt, perspiration and fingerprints from the surface of the instrument
with a clean cloth .Rub briskly to return finish to its fine luster.
Keeping
hands clean prior to playing & wiping off sweat and marks with just
a clean dry cloth after are useful to tips for its preservation

FINISH

 Clear Lacquer

Lacquer
protects the metal from oxidation. It is the life of the Trumpet.
Lacquer is much thicker than ordinary plating. Good lacquer is baked on,
is as hard as glass and can actually double the thickness of the brass
bell (the bell is lacquered on both inside and outside surfaces). It
forms a coating that protects from oxidation, perspiration, sulfur and
abrasion. It keeps the brass from elements helping it keep its shine and
personality. It does not yellow or craze as some cellulose lacquer.
